Recent Projects

history has endless applications

There's no such thing as a typical project for us, because we offer such a wide range of services and each client is unique. Please look through this list of some recent projects and get in touch for more information.

Scottish historical research and interpretation

We recently executed studies of Melrose Abbey; the Old Parliament House in Edinburgh; architect Sydney Mitchell as well as the island of Fidra, said to have been the inspiration for Stevenson's Treasure Island. We also wrote a briefing paper for a leading government agency on the subject of medieval heart burials.

We researched and wrote copy for interpretative panels for a visitor centre in a Deeside village; a hotel in Aberdeen; a book launch, an Aberdeen pub and an international clan gathering.

We helped a leading government heritage agency contribute to SCRAN, a Scottish online educational resource, by producing 516 web pages for each of over 300 sites and monuments.

Legal research

We investigated rights, ancient titles and estate histories for a range of clients. Our work covered investigation of feudal titles and real burdens in Argyll, fishings on the River Tay, and the proposed sale of a hospital in Aberdeenshire. We also helped secure the award of a barony title by the Lord Lyon for a client.

Genealogy

In one recent ancestor chasing project we united a woman with nine half cousins. In another we created a 50th birthday present featuring a hand-drawn family tree. We produced a family tree for an Aberdeenshire estate.

Cultural heritage management

We revived a struggling heritage community group by identifying a series of goals, helping to secure the premises for a small visitor centre, starting a Friends groups and a successful lecture series. The Project is now a vibrant community-led initiative based in North-east Scotland.

Our lottery successes include a project about the architectural history of an Edwardian hospital; this formed the background to a successful application for funding via the National Lottery. We also wrote the Statement of Significance for a major - and ultimately successful - Lottery project in Aberdeen.

Tours

Recent tours for groups and individuals have ranged from Clan Societies and Rotarians to visiting dignitaries. On behalf a major client we also produced a pamphlet, 'Walking with History', providing the public with a walking tour of Old Aberdeen.
