History in the Making

Professional historians & researchers, Aberdeen, Scotland

Hello. I’m Anne Simpson.

a little history

My love affair with Scottish history and culture started many, many years ago in a galaxy far, far away when I first saw someone dance a Highland sword dance. I was immediately entranced by the music of the bagpipes, the bright tartan, the intricacy of the dancer’s steps. Nowadays people might call that a Damascus moment. For me, life certainly went up an octave. I was hooked.

In 1996 together with my husband I turned my life long love of things Scottish into a business called History in the Making and now a few years shy of our twentieth year of trading with the retirement of my principal business partner, I’ve decided to restructure History in the Making.

So I now wear three hats :

  • Historymaker
  • Ancestor chaser
  • Walking tour guide

And I offer three core services :

  • Scottish historical research services
  • Scottish genealogy & family history
  • Walking tours of Aberdeen

my services

As Historymaker

Scottish Historical Research Services

You may you need some answers but you don’t how to find them. Or perhaps you’re a time-pressed scholar who is facing a publication deadline and find you’ve no time to to travel to Scotland to finish or finesse your research.

Leave it with me. I’ll find the vital and appropriate information you need. I’ve a vast knowledge of Scottish history and I know where to research facts and how to interpret them to turn them into history. History that’s both accurate and interesting.ur twentieth year of trading with the retirement of my principal business partner, I’ve decided to restructure History in the Making.

I’m a ferret. I dig. And I dig deep. I’m fast, efficient and co-operative which means that I will save you time and money plus you’ll avoid the perils of informed guess work. So, you can rely on me to unearth the facts and provide accurate interpretation for your needs.

As ‘Ancestor Chaser’

Scottish Genealogy & Family History

Owing to the success of BBC Television’s ‘Who do You Think you Are?’ programme tracing Scottish ancestors has become a fascinating preoccupation for many people worldwide.

Do you need help with your family tree? Perhaps in finding that elusive black sheep who was the stuff of family legend. Or you are dealing with just too many ‘David Smiths’ and not enough ‘Jopp Grants’ and you just can’t get round that brick wall?

With extensive experience of all the Scottish family history sources – as well as many English and Welsh records – I can find and interpret the correct information for you, charting generations of ancestors. I can also work the process forwards as well as backwards, starting with an individual and charting their descendants – even searching for ‘missing’ persons.

Whether you need to check a few facts, establish an accurate context or detailed research, I work quickly and with accuracy. If the facts are to be found, I can find them for you. Equally, you can expect that I’ll tell you if there are dead ends, facts that point in an unexpected direction or just paper-thin evidence.
